A student may appeal a decision(s) resulting from a hearing within 5 business days of the outcome if one of the following conditions apply:
- New Information: There is new and significant information that has not yet been considered. Information would be considered “new” if it was discovered after the student’s hearing.
- Procedural Irregularity: Failure to follow the process or procedures as outlined such that it impacted the outcome
- Bias: The student has reason to believe that the process or outcomes were substantively influenced by bias, prejudice, or targeting by one or more members of the College involved in the investigation or adjudication
Students wishing to appeal disciplinary outcome must submit an appeal letter to the Vice President of Student Life, outlining the reasons for the appeal. Upon receipt of the request for an appeal, the VP will appoint an appeal officer (typically VP).
Upon receipt, the appeal officer will evaluate the appeal request and communicate a decision within 7 business days. The result of this evaluation may:
- Determine the appeal request merits a formal appeal hearing and schedule a hearing no later than 10 business days from the date the request is reviewed. Formal appeal hearings will be conducted following the same procedures as set forth for formal conduct hearings.
- Determine there are no grounds for the appeal thus upholding the decision.
- Change the original decision after reasonable review of the appeal request and the decision rationale of the hearing officer
Appellate decisions will be communicated in writing and are final.
