As a Christian liberal arts institution dedicated to the exploration of truth, the civil discourse of ideas, and the pursuit of Biblical justice, ENC protects the rights of its student community to engage in freely, fully, safely, and respectfully around contemporary issues and concerns through demonstrations, protests, and assemblies. Students engaging in a demonstration, protest, or assembly must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Demonstrations/protests/assemblies must be registered with and approved by the Dean of Students (or designee) at least two business days in advance of the proposed date and time. In the unlikely event that the assembly is time-dependent and must occur with immediacy, the organizing students may request an expedited review by the Dean of Students by contacting the Office of Safety and Security.
- Only current students may organize, promote, or lead demonstrations/protests/assemblies on campus. Participants who are not members of the college community may be asked to leave.
- Demonstrations/protests/assemblies must be conducted in a manner that does not (1) disrupt the operations and functions of the College, (2) obstruct the basic and respectful exchange of ideas, (3) infringe on the rights of students to engage in their educational programs, or (4) violate local, state, or federal law.
- Blocking or obstructing passage of a person or vehicle to access buildings or pathways is prohibited.
- All campus spaces must be returned to their original condition after the event has ended.
Unauthorized entry and/or access of any College space is prohibited. See Student Handbook policy: 4.23: Unauthorized Access.
Refusal to leave a space or comply with directives by an authorized College representative is prohibited. See Student Handbook policy: 4.12: Failure to Comply.
Students who are considering engagement with demonstrations/protests/assemblies are encouraged to contact the Dean of Students or the Director of Safety & Security for purposes of safety planning.
If the demonstration/protest/assembly is to take place or be moved off campus, individuals organizing the event are responsible for contacting the local municipal entity (e.g. City of Quincy) in order to obtain all permits and other requirements for a demonstration or gathering.
The College has the right to discontinue campus demonstrations, protests, and assemblies that do not comply with policy.
